A born and bred Whangarei girl, Sarah grew up on a dairy farm in the Mid Western district. Sarah was schooled locally, played hockey for Maungakaramea and supported Mid Western rugby.

Deciding that cows weren’t really her thing she packed her bags and joined the scarifies at Otago University where she completed a degree in Physical Education. Not quite ready to give up the scarfie lifestyle she decided to stay another year and complete her teaching diploma at the Dunedin College of Education.

Sarah’s next port of call was Waiheke Island, where she taught Physical Education and Health at the High School. It was quite a lifestyle, especially considering she was out with the Seasports academy most Thursday afternoons, sea kayaking, windsurfing and scuba diving! However, the intelligent kids at Waiheke knew more about the world than she did so the bags were packed again and she was off!

It was originally Vancouver that lay in her sights but plans were changed and it was off to bright lights; New York New York, so good it’s named twice!

So New York it was and that’s where she stayed, learning martinis and cosmo’s during the day. She picked up the lingo of the leprechaun bunch, where a paddy did find her and took her to lunch. Twas the luck o’ the Irish he brought lucky charms and convinced her the pot of gold lay in his arms!

After four years of living in the Borough of Queens, it was time to move back to the land of their dreams! New Zealand it was and that’s where they’ve settled. In the hills of Waipu with their dog Jeter and two Kune Kunes, Lionel and Lynette and 3 fattening calves, the freezer’s all set!

Sarah is back playing hockey for Hika; Mark works construction and supports the All Blacks.

A change of pace, a change of lifestyle from bright city lights to the long ninety mile! So goodground is where Sarah will stay, with her local knowledge proving to pay.

Call in for the craic down in Waipu, you might just find a leprechaun too!
