I met JAMES ALEXANDER of Waipu, Northland in April 2011 in his role as Agent with GoodGround Real Estate Agency.

It was Sunday morning. He drove 20 km to collect my wife, myself and two friends at short notice after a telephone enquiry from me about prospective purchase of a sign-posted listing. Over the course of 3 hours, he demonstrated and discussed all relevant properties he had listed.  He also explained the background to many he didn’t.

James impressed from the outset:

  • well groomed personally with an immaculate vehicle
  • cordial and polite
  • knowledgeable and authoritative about his listings, their relative merits, faults, and “asking price” in the current difficult market
  • willing to listen to our assessments of his listings without forgoing instructions from or underlying obligation to his vendors.

We short-listed two properties. I made offers well below asking price. He took up the task of conveying these to his principals. Hard bargaining ensued. A complex agreement was eventually negotiated to our satisfaction and agreement reached with the vendor. James acted professionally throughout the difficult task of having this agreement committed to writing. His skill at balancing the respective interests of both sides to the bargain was, in the end, the main reason agreement was concluded.

I enjoyed dealing with James. He has a keen sense of humour and takes a genuine and proactive interest in working with his buying and selling customers. I am confident he demonstrates this human interest in all his dealings in the real estate industry.
